There are so many great places in Santa Fe to find Mexican food and at the top of that list is enchiladas.

We took on the enviable task of scouring the area for the best places to find enchiladas.

Here are our top five, according to reviews and other online resources:

The Shed

Address: 113½ East Palace Ave.

Hours: Monday - Saturday 11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., 5 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Website: https://sfshed.com/

Phone: (505) 982-9030

The Shed uses a special blue corn recipe and smothers it with their world-renowned red chile sauce (although the green chile sauce isn’t bad either). Many diners also rave about their posole, which you can get on the side when you order the enchilada plate.

Tomasita’s

Address: 500 S. Guadalupe St.

Hours: Sunday – Thursday 11 a.m. – 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. – 10 p.m.

Website:https://tomasitas.com/

Phone: (505) 983-5721

Tomasita’s could appear on a Best Of list for either Santa Fe or Albuquerque because of their locations in each city. The great taste probably has something to do with the fresh chiles grown in southern New Mexico. Diners especially appreciate the Super Combination Plate aimed at the hungriest of appetites.

El Callejon Taqueria & Grill

Address: 208 Galisteo St.

Hours: Tuesday - Thursday 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m., 4 p.m. – 9 p.m.; Friday – Sunday 11:30 a.m. – 9 p.m.

Website:https://www.elcallejonsantafe.com/

Phone: (505) 983-8378

El Callejon turns things up a notch by pairing delicious, mozzarella-filled enchiladas with their true specialty - a variety of enticing margaritas. Jalapeno Margarita anyone? Their mole sauce and potato-carrot-cactus sauté is like no other. Don’t forget to grab a street taco or two as well.

Tia Sophia’s

Address: 210 W San Francisco St.

Hours: Daily 7 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Website:https://tia-sophias.club/

Phone: (505) 983 9880

Tia Sophia’s has earned its reputation as a must-visit destination for authentic and delicious Mexican food that blends convenience and tradition. Try the Green Chile Chicken Enchilada and the Red Chile Cheese Enchilada. Although they’re only open for lunch, the portion size satisfies your hunger well into the evening.

Casa Chimayo

Address: 409 W Water St., Santa Fe

Hours: Tuesday - Thursday 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., 5 p.m. – 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. -9 p.m.

Website: https://www.casachimayosantafe.com/

Phone: (505) 428-0391

Casa Chimayo has been a popular favorite among visitors and locals since it opened and kept the faithful even after it changed ownership in 2021. It does so by staying true to its New Mexico roots while also infusing dinners like rack of lamb and grilled salmon. Guy’s Enchiladas are actually a nod to celebrity chef Guy Fieri who visited several years ago for his Food Network show. But the Crab Enchiladas in blue corn tortillas may be worthy of a show of their own.
