The Day of the Tread cycling event keeps rolling along and dolling out money to benefit organizations that serve New Mexico’s young people.

The 2024 cycling event, held in October, raised $61,575 for New Mexico nonprofit organizations, including $46,075 for Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation, New Mexico’s only pediatric rehabilitative hospital, according to its website. The event has been run 18 times and has raised more than $880,000 since its inception, event organizers announced this week.

The event includes road cycling events ranging from seven to 100 mile rides, and gravel rides of 17 to 50 miles. It aims to be a Day of the Dead/Halloween themed events with a costume contest included in the festivities.

“To see the young people out there participating and having a great time, is what the mission of our organization is all about — encouraging people to stay healthy and fit and enjoy the beautiful outdoors,” said Mark Gundlach, Day of the Tread founder.

This year’s event will be on Oct. 25 and 26. Sign-ups are underway at the website dayofthetread.com.
