James W. Guthrie, Jr. has joined REDW as a practice group leader of REDW’s international tax practice and as principal. In his role, Guthrie – who will work with REDW’s offices across Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Oregon as well as with international team members – will provide guidance to clients to mitigate exposure to double taxation and ensure clients understand and remain current with all tax filing obligations. Guthrie, both a Certified Public Accountant and Chartered Global Management Accountant, brings more than 30 years of experience to the position including in leadership roles within International Tax practices at CliftonLarsonAllen, LLP, Ernst & Young, LLP, Grant Thornton, LLP, and more. He also owned his own firm, serving as an international tax consultant, for several years. He earned his bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from the University of Utah and his master’s degree from Brigham Young University.

Brett Harman has joined REDW as a senior manager. In his role, Harman will supervise teams in performing financial reporting audits and assurance services, partner with and advise clients to help grow and expand their businesses. Harman brings more than 12 years of public accounting experience to the role, most recently as senior manager at CohnReznick LLP. Harman spent more than a decade at the firm. He earned his bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from Elon University and is a licensed certified public accountant.

Craig Barkdull of ASM Global has been promoted to assistant general manager for Albuquerque Convention Center. Barkdull joined the convention center in 2023 as director of sales and marketing. Prior to his role at Albuquerque Convention Center, Barkdull served as the director of sales and marketing and a member of the executive committee for Quail Lodge and Golf Club in Carmel, California. Barkdull received his bachelor’s degrees from Northern Arizona University’s School of Communication, and a master’s degree from Chapman University’s Argyros School of Business and Economics in Orange, California.

Eric Haskins, has been promoted to principal at Studio Southwest Architects. Haskins has more than 25 years of experience in his field. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and a master’s degree from the University of New Mexico.

The STAR awards recognize individuals in STEM who are not only excelling in their fields but also making a significant impact through their work, research and community outreach.

Juan Olvera has been named president of the Apartment Association of New Mexico. Olvera is the director of the Mesilla Valley Public Housing Authority. Founded in 1979, AANM has more than 875 members, representing over 70,000 rental units throughout the state.

Elisa Cárdenas has been appointed chair for the Leasing Information Network and president-elect for the New Mexico chapter of Certified Commercial Investment Member. Cárdenas is a senior associate broker at Colliers New Mexico-El Paso.

Colin T. Baugh has joined the board of directors at the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District in the Bernalillo County seat. MRGCD operates, maintains and manages irrigation, drainage and river flood control in the middle valley. Serving approximately 11,000 irrigators, six pueblos and 100,000 parcels of land throughout the Middle Rio Grande, MRGCD is essential to maintaining the facilities required to upkeep the agricultural production in this area.
