Mulch to celebrate: Locals recycle Christmas trees
PNM chipped 5,011 trees in Albuquerque and 1,162 trees in Rio Rancho.
How much mulch can you get from 6,000 Christmas trees? More than 90,000 pounds, the Public Service Company of New Mexico found out this year.
Albuquerque and Rio Rancho residents recycled 6,173 Christmas trees across four locations for PNM to turn into mulch, according to a news release sent last week from PNM.
The utility partners with Albuquerque and Rio Rancho annually to grind the trees into mulch after the holidays. The mulch can be used for plants or residential landscapes, according to PNM.
“Most people may not think there is a correlation between PNM and vegetation, but it is an important part of the company’s work,” said David Stricker, lead of PNM’s vegetation management, in the news release.
