UNM Medical Group names director of clinic operations

University of New Mexico Medical Group has named a new executive medical director of Clinic Operations, Dr. Alex Schevchuck.

Schevchuck, an associate professor with the Division of Cardiology at UNM’s School of Medicine and medical director for UNM Telehealth, relocated to New Mexico in 2004 from Ukraine, according to a news release.

“I am passionate about patient care, medical leadership and improving the health of New Mexicans,” Schevchuck said in a statement. “I’m excited and honored to accept the role of executive medical director for UNM Medical Group Inc. Clinic Operations.”

Schevchuck received his medical degree in 2000 at Ukraine’s Ternopil State Medical University, according to the news release. He completed his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship training at the UNM School of Medicine. He recently completed the executive MBA program from the UNM Anderson School of Management.

Schevchuck’s clinical expertise includes valvular heart disease, advanced and interventional echocardiography and adult congenital heart disease.

The news release said he will report to Dr. Jennifer Phillips, chief medical officer for UNM Medical Group, and will oversee all operations of the group’s clinics with the organization’s Clinic Operations Group.
