US Eagle to offer financial literacy courses to NM students

More than 9,000 students in several New Mexico counties will have access to an online financial literacy course as part of a local credit union’s efforts.

US Eagle Federal Credit Union is partnering with Banzai, which provides online financial literacy courses, to provide the course to schools. The training is being offered to students in Bernalillo, San Juan, Sandoval and Santa Fe counties.

As part of the effort, US Eagle also is making its experts available for virtual or in-classroom presentations, and classes will have the chance to visit its branches.

“Thanks to US Eagle Federal Credit Union, area students will now have access to a wide array of courses and resources designed to help prepare them for our increasingly complex world,” Morgan Vandagriff, co-founder of Banzai, said in a statement. “We wouldn’t be able to provide these tools without their support.”

As part of the Banzai courses, students try to manage a budget, save money and respond to unexpected financial pitfalls. Teachers monitor and grade student work remotely.

The courses also cover basic tax filing and health insurance.

Banzai officials said the company’s curriculum aligns with New Mexico’s state curriculum requirements.
