Welcome to NAIOP
Welcome to NAIOP New Mexico!
On behalf of the Board of Directors and our entire membership, I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to you as a new member of our chapter. We are thrilled to have you join our community of commercial real estate professionals dedicated to advancing the industry in our region.
NAIOP New Mexico is committed to advocacy, education and networking, and we strive to provide our members with valuable resources and opportunities for professional growth and development in the commercial real estate industry in New Mexico
Advocacy: As a member of NAIOP New Mexico, you will have the chance to engage in advocacy efforts that promote pro-business policies and initiatives. We actively work with local and state officials to advocate for policies that support consistency, predictability and a vibrant and sustainable built environment. Your membership allows your voice to be at the table and help make our state a better place to own, build and invest in commercial real estate.
Education: Our chapter offers a variety of educational programs and events designed to keep our members informed about the latest trends, best practices and regulatory changes impacting the industry. Whether you are a seasoned professional or new to the field, there are always opportunities to expand your knowledge and expertise.
Networking: NAIOP New Mexico provides numerous networking opportunities throughout the year, including luncheons, mixers and special events. These gatherings offer the chance to connect with fellow industry professionals, politicians and decisions makers in our communities to build relationships and explore potential business opportunities.
As we embark on this new year, I am excited to share that one of my key priorities as the 2025 Board of Directors president is to work with our local and state leadership to make Metropolitan Redevelopment Areas function better, which will stimulate more development and investment into these troubled areas of our cities and towns in New Mexico.
There are Metropolitan Redevelopment Areas, or MRAs, all over the state. In Albuquerque alone there are over 30 MRAs and they are typically the most blighted areas of the community. These areas should be a focus for our industry to assist state and local officials to change these sections of our towns and cities into vibrant places to live, work, shop and learn.
By working with our elected officials to streamline the entitlement process, offer additional development incentives and create predictability, I believe we can change the perception of these neglected parts of our towns and cities in short order.
Additionally, these MRAs, when working properly, will create more sources of business for our members. Our industry can be a solution to many of the problems we have in our community, such as homelessness, crime and vagrancy. Redevelopment in MRAs will add needed housing and commercial spaces and the gross receipts taxes and permitting fees our industry pays to the city and state will allow our elected officials to have additional funding to support community programs, first responders and needed infrastructure improvements.
I encourage you to get involved with our chapter by participating in one of our committees. Whether your interests lie in advocacy, education, membership or events, there are opportunities to make meaningful contributions and help shape the future of our organization.
Once again, welcome to NAIOP New Mexico! I look forward to meeting you at our upcoming events and working together to advance the interests of the commercial real estate community in our region.
Editor's note: NAIOP previously stood for the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks, but it rebranded to just NAIOP.
