Bernalillo County is seeking artists to create a public art piece for the North Valley Aquatic Center, currently under construction at the Raymond G. Sanchez Community Center, according to a news release.

The county is offering a $75,000 budget for two project phases, and local schools in the area will help create the piece.

The first phase of the project, which will receive $35,000, will be installed by May 2025, and phase two will receive $40,000 and be completed by January 2026.

Applications can be submitted online with a minimum of three artwork examples — maximum 10 — and the option to include one video.

The deadline to apply is Feb. 16.

The aquatic center is located at 9800 Fourth NW. The new facility will replace the older pool that was removed in 2010. The new facility will feature an outdoor pool, a stand-alone water slide and a lobby and check-in area for guests. There will also be an indoor wellness pool for therapeutic uses and holistic health, the news release said.

The release added the project aims to represent the culture, heritage and landscapes of Albuquerque and the North Valley.
