Here is where you can find apple orchards around Albuquerque
Today marks the Autumn Equinox, the first "official" day of fall.
Apples are popular this time of year and all the things you can make with them; apple cider, apple pie, apple turnovers and apple sauce to name a few.
If you're looking for where to get local apples for fall baking — or just to eat straight — here are two Albuquerque Metro orchards to choose from.
While these farms don't let visitors pick their own apples, they do offer apple varieties not found at your average grocery store.
Alary Farm
Located in Corrales, this farm offers different apple varieties throughout the season. The current availability for this weekend is Jonagold and Jonalicious Apples. The farm starts apple cider at 9 a.m. Saturday.
LOCATION: 6322 Corrales Road, 505-898-1204
HOURS: 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, while supplies last
COST: $3-$3.50 per pound of apples; $8 for a half gallon, $14 for a full gallon of apple cider, usually sells out on Saturday.
Hays Honey & Apple Farm
Just 20 minutes south of Albuquerque in Bosque Farms, this apple orchard currently has Stark Crimson, Blushing Crimson, Early McIntosh, Fuji and a limited number of Gala apples available. The farm also sells local honey and bee pollen, which is a great remedy for seasonal allergies such as hay fever.
LOCATION: 400 Esperanza, 505-869-2369
HOURS: Closed Sunday and Monday; 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday- Saturday
COST: $1.25 per pound of apples.
