Burqueños can look forward to a cold, wet weekend beginning Wednesday night, with a 60% chance of rain turning to snow early Thursday morning.

"Precipitation is going to enter from the west overnight," Said Matt DeMaria, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, Albuquerque. "We could actually even have some thunderstorms initially."

By early Thursday morning, there will be the chance for "very minor accumulations" of snow in the metro area, but later in the day the weather will transition back to rainstorms, DeMaria said.

DeMaria said there is potential for freezing fog Thursday morning, which may impact morning commuters.

He added by Friday and Saturday, there will be more of a chance for snow in the higher elevations and rain-and-snow mix in the lower elevations.

"By Sunday we should be all dried out," DeMaria said. "And then early next week … temperatures are going to warm up a bit, but it's still going to be a little bit below average … warming up into the upper-40s (to) low-50s."
