Where does New Mexico rank on the list of best places for teachers to work?

New Mexico ranked 44th on a list ranking states from best to worst for teachers.

WalletHub — a personal finance company providing tools and resources for financial well being — put together the list of all 50 states and the District of Columbia based on several factors such as starting salary, 10-year salary change, work environment, pupil-to-teacher ratio, projected share of teacher turnover and working-mom friendliness.

Education jobs are among the lowest paying jobs requiring a bachelor's degree, according to payscale.com.

The website reported secondary education teachers rank 701st on a national list of highest paying jobs with a bachelor's degree.

The National Education Association reported teachers are making $3,644 less than they were 10 years ago after adjusting for inflation.

The Land of Enchantment received a total score of 30.61 out of 100 possible points —100 representing the ideal conditions for working as a teacher.

New Mexico scored 20th in the Opportunity and Competition category and 51st in the Academic and Work Environment category.
