From award-winning eateries to family-owned cafes and cute bistros, New Mexico is filled with unique Italian restaurants.

Here are five highly recommended Italian restaurants across New Mexico, according to Google reviews.

1. Andiamo! (Santa Fe)

Andiamo grew out of the relationship that the proprietor has with food. The proprietor’s family came together around the table, “Food was very central to our social lives. It was a way for us to bring people together, especially those who didn’t have a place to go," the restaurant's website says.

Customer review: “This quiet little gem is tucked away on a side street and is easy to miss. But once you're inside, it's got great ambiance. It's got a come in and relax type of vibe. The soup of the day was roasted corn and it was superb. Just the right balance between sweet and savory."

Address: 322 Garfield St. (505) 995-9595

Hours: Open Sunday-Thursday 4:30 p.m. - 9 p.m., Friday-Saturday 4:30 p.m. - 9:15 p.m.

2. M’tucci’s Moderno (Rio Rancho)

M’tucci’s Italian Restaurants in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho has been voted by readers in the past as the Best Italian Restaurant in Albuquerque. They feature traditional and contemporary Italian food, with house made pasta, cheeses, cured meats and craft Cocktails.

Customer review: “My first time here and was very pleased. The location, staff, atmosphere and food did not disappoint. The staff were very attentive and pleasant. The food was very tasty and delivered in a timely fashion."

Address: 1908 Wellspring Ave. Southeast (505) 891-2432

3. Portofino (Roswell)

This cute, laid-back eatery is known by locals and travelers for their pizza, pasta and other familiar Italian and Italian-American standards. With authenticity and menu variety, Portofino is a customer favorite in Roswell.

Customer review: “First, my server, Andrew, was excellent. He was friendly and professional, and his pride in the food served showed. I had decided on a lunch combo of chickn marsala and a house salad, but he told me the soup of the day was crab bisque. So I had a cup of that as well. The house made dressing was a roasted garlic vinaigrette that was subtle and flavorful. The bisque was as good as any I've had living on the gulf coast. The marsala was perfect. I told Andrew it was one of the top meals I had eaten in a month on the road."

Address: 1203 West 2nd St. (575) 625-8410

Hours: Open Monday - Saturday 11 a.m. - 9 p.m., and Sundays 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

4. Piccolino (Artesia)

This small-town Italian eatery offers outdoor seating and vegetarian options. With authentic flavors and friendly service, Piccolino is worth the stop if you ever find yourself in the area. Their lasagna and calamari are customer favorites.

Customer review: “OMG!! New favorite restaurant, I love Italian food and have been learning to make it from scratch. And this place tastes like it's homemade and made from scratch. Definitely recommend. I got the calamari, and chicken Alfredo, they are delicious.”

Address: 201 North 1st St. (575) 748-1100

Hours: Closed Sunday, open Monday - Saturday 10:30 a.m. - 9 p.m.

5. Fratelli’s Bistro (Gallup)

This Italian bistro has a dog-friendly patio (much loved by customers) and is known for their quality dishes and (pro tip!) homemade gelato. This is one of those places you’re going to want to visit, go ahead and order a half pint of Pistachio Gelato to enjoy.

Customer review: “I tried the chicken wings on recommendation from the waitress and they were phenomenal. Truly amazing chicken wings. I would highly suggest them. We also split a pizza and the pizza was good but the wings were the real standout. If you're just passing through or if you've never been, I would recommend checking out Fratelli's Bistro.”
