Relevant Experience

As a trained educator, I have been a child and parent advocate. A 30+ year resident of my district, I've seen that many are disenfranchised with how Santa Fe treats those they are supposed to serve. I'll to bring their voice to the Capitol.

Have you or your business, if you are a business owner, ever been the subject of any state or federal tax liens?

No

Have you ever been arrested for, charged with, or convicted of drunken driving, any misdemeanor or any felony in New Mexico or any other state? If so, explain.

No

Have you ever been involved in a personal or business bankruptcy proceeding?

No

New Mexico is highly reliant on the oil and natural gas industries to generate revenue to fund state programs, as evidenced by recent oil boom and bust cycles. What steps should the state take to diversify its economy and revenue base?

Creating a business friendly economy not punished by overspending legislators is step one. Simplifying the tax code is a major step in encouraging new businesses to generate revenue.

Would you support or oppose a paid family and medical leave program that would require most employees and employers to pay into a state-run fund?

I oppose. Again, here is a fund that is another stranglehold on our business owners. This is a burden that should be left undone for a product that doesn't even tell the employees their part they have to pay into it.

What more, if anything, should the Legislature do to address a court ruling that found New Mexico is failing to provide a sufficient education to all students?

Internal audits have been abandoned by APS since 2014. While the legislature loves to lay heavy rules on the citizens, our biggest employer in Albuquerque gets off scot-free for a product that hasn't served our students or citizens well. Twenty-five percent proficiencies across subject areas are unacceptable.

What changes, if any, should New Mexico make to its gross receipts tax code?

New businesses often are taxed out before any profits are even brought in. Give small start-ups a chance to recoup their initial investments before requiring GRTs. Still file annual State taxes, but stop punishing families trying to make ends meet.

What changes, if any, should New Mexico make to its election laws and primary system? Do you support or oppose opening the state's primary elections to voters who aren't affiliated with either major political party?

This problem stems from people not being able to work for their party if they change their party to vote in the primary for 6 months. I think people need to have skin in the game for the party they want to vote for. I think open parties make it available for opposing parties to chose a weaker candidate that would be more favorable to them, making this antagonistic, rather than moving forward.

The State Land Office isn't leasing any new land until the Legislature raises oil and gas royalty rates. Would you support or oppose raising oil and gas royalty rates?

The land belongs to the People of New Mexico. Seems the refusal to lease more land a hook to manipulate people to be forced to use EV's, rather than to keep raising oil and gas royalty rates. Govts choosing what industries thrive or not is fascism, not free enterprise.

Do you support or oppose the state treating brackish and produced water? The New Mexico Environment Department has proposed reuse for certain projects not related to drinking water, like generating green hydrogen or running hemp farms using produced water.

Treating brackish water has always been a move towards sustainability. Green Hydrogen requires more energy for electrolysis to purify the water, so allow for more technologies to explore this.

What steps should the Legislature take to address crime and improve public safety?

Stop Catch and Release. Back the Blue. Stop blaming them for horrible policies that demonize them for the problems that SF & the Mayor create. Close the border. We have been overwhelmed and then had more people come in unvetted using New Mexicans tax dollars while our own are kicked to the curb.

Would you support or oppose a ban on automatic weapons?

The 2A was created to protect the common man from criminals & over-encroaching government (same thing to many.) Bloated governments have ZERO right to keep people from protecting themselves, especially when govt officials have security, at taxpayer expense.

What steps do you believe should be taken to improve New Mexico's economic competitiveness?

Get rid of the GRT. Simplify taxes for small business owners. Stop promising out-of-state entities HUGE tax breaks for years, without any real benefit to New Mexicans, while nickel-and-diming small local businesses to death. No foreign countries should be able to buy land or property!

New Mexico is the only state that does not pay its legislators a salary, though lawmakers do receive per diem payments and can qualify for a legislative pension. Should lawmakers be paid a salary?

Paying a legislative salary isn’t sustainable right now, nor will it guarantee better representation. I'd support this is if we could get our educational system above the current 25 percentile proficiencies & businesses to thrive, rather than paying legislators who have been stripping New Mexicans of their rights instead of protecting them.

Anything else you would like to add?

One thing I've seen from the recent legislative sessions is a concerted effort to keep bills and agendas hidden from the public. Grainy videos on NMLegis.gov scream to the People of NM — You Don't Matter — we don't want you up in our business. New Mexicans deserve better. I will be part of that change.
