A group of detectives, deputies, and employees of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office gave Santa’s elves a break on Tuesday as they spent their morning wrapping gifts and packaging boxes of food that will be distributed later this week to county families in need.

This year, the Sheriff’s Office has partnered with the national nonprofit US United, whose mission is to unite people of different backgrounds to purchase and provide toys and food to more than 100 families. The Sheriff’s Office estimates that the toys and food delivered this week will benefit more than 300 children.

“It’s honestly a blessing to help families that we serve every single day,” Deanna Aragon, a deputy with BCSO, said. “The holidays can be hard for families, so it’s nice to be a part of something good for our community.”
