December has appeared this year as quickly and quietly as Santa shimmying down a chimney. There's just something special about a month decked out in glowing lights and warm feelings. Here are some events to help you get into the winter spirit.

1Winter in Corrales

The 35th annual Juried Winter Craft Show, sponsored by Corrales Historical Society and Corrales Society of Artists, is coming to the Old San Ysidro Church from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, through Sunday, Dec. 3. The free event will feature the works of 40 New Mexico artists. The church is located at 966 Old Church Road in Corrales.

2A warm glow

The Abó Mission, part of the Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument, will be set aglow by more than 1,000 luminarias on Saturday, Dec. 2. At 4 p.m. there will be a mass and posada reenactment, then from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. visitors can enjoy the luminarias along with live music, piñatas and refreshments. The Abó Mission is located nine miles west of Mountainair, just off Highway 60 and a half mile north on New Mexico 513. The event is free.

3Foliage fair

The Albuquerque Garden Center is hosting the 2023 Holiday Craft and Plant Fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, and Saturday, Dec. 2. Eventgoers can find works by over 35 arts and crafts vendors, wreaths, poinsettias, succulent bowls and more. The free event will be at 10120 Lomas Blvd. NE.

4Songs of the season

The New Mexico Symphonic Chorus will be holding a holiday concert, with a guest performance by the University of New Mexico Concert Choir, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3. Tickets run $15-$30, plus fees, at nmschorus.org. The concert will be held at the Simms Center for the Performing Arts at Albuquerque Academy, 6400 Wyoming Blvd. NE.

5Jazzy holidays

Enjoy “A Very Jazzy Christmas” with the Band of Enchantment at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3. Vocalist Amy Faithe will join the band for an evening of swinging Christmas favorites. Tickets run $15-$25, plus fees, at popejoypresents.evenue.net, with children 5 and younger free. The concert will be held at UNM’s Keller Hall, 203 Cornell Drive NE.

6Jingle all the way

The Avanyu Plaza, across from the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, will be decked out for the holidays and ready for the Holiday Jingle from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2. Enjoy live holiday music, art vendors, children’s activities and more. The IPCC is located at 2401 12th St. NW.

7Community coming together

The Native American Community Academy Parent Group is hosting the 8th annual Holiday Arts and Crafts Sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2. There will be vendors selling Native American jewelry, pottery, beadwork, traditional clothing, baked goods and more. The NACA parking lot is located at 1000 Indian School Road NW.
