If you’re looking for an early New Year’s Eve, the Adobe Theater is offering a cabaret of Broadway songs.
Running from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 31, this second annual fundraiser features music, champagne and hors d’oeuvres, as well as a silent auction.
The singers will perform numbers from hit musicals such as “Cabaret,” “Guys and Dolls,” “The Bridges of Madison County,” “A Chorus Line,” “The Music Man,” “Man of La Mancha,” as well as some vaudeville tunes.
“It’s very eclectic,” said director Peter Parkin. “They do a bit of a scene leading into the song. Phil (Shortell) likes to give a lot of background to the songs he’s singing.”
The singers include locally known actors Shortell (“Parfumerie”), Jonathan Graff (“The Music Man”), Stevie Nichols (“The Music Man”), Lorri Layle Oliver (“The Hollow”), and Douglas Vandewinckel (“The Hollow”). Musician Joel Gelpe will provide accompaniment.
“It was an idea that sort of came out of the blue during ‘The Women of Lockerbie’ “ in 2022, said Parkin.
Last year’s silent auction featured a balloon ride, salon visits, jewelry, original art, restaurant gift certificates, theater tickets and workshops.
The event netted $6,000, enough to pay the rent and utilities for two months.
This year’s auction will gather similar items, including a gift certificate to El Pinto Restaurant, said Parkin.
