AT BOOKS ON THE BOSQUE

Books on the Bosque is hosting two author events Sunday, Sept. 28.

The first is at 1:15 p.m. when author Alysha Rameera chats about her new work of fiction, “Her Soul for a Crown.” The book is described as a slow-burn romantasy inspired by Sri Lankan mythology. It follows Anula, an orphaned young woman with an affinity for poisons and revenge. She will do anything to end the reign of the heartless rajas, even if it means selling her soul to the most accursed god of all.

Then at 3 p.m., New Mexico author Elizabeth Rose Quinn is in conversation with Jeff Carter about Quinn’s debut thriller “Follow Me.”

The novel is described as a creepy and frighteningly funny satiric thriller about Chiara, who goes missing at a mom-influencer weekend.

A year after authorities have come up empty-handed, Adrienne takes up the search. In so doing, Adrienne “uncovers the real horror of Mom-Stag-Ram culture.”

Books on the Bosque is located at 6261 Riverside Plaza Lane NW.

At BOOKWORKS

Bookworks will host two author events this week.

At 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, Albuquerque author James Janko will be in conversation with Ellen Greenblatt about his new novel “The Wire-Walker.” It tells the story of 16-year-old Amal, who lives with her family in the Balata refugee camp near Nablus in the Israeli Occupied West Bank (Palestine).

If she could, Amal would be an aerialist every waking hour. She’s thrilled when she’s given a green light to perform with the Flying Kids of Tel Aviv, a troupe of Jewish and Palestinian Israeli youths. That light is dimmed when she returns home to deal with the hardships of life as a refugee.

Priyanka Kumar of Santa Fe will read from and sign copies of her new book “The Light Between Apple Trees: Rediscovering the Wild Through a Beloved American Fruit” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the bookstore.

Growing up in the foothills of the Himalayas, Kumar was enchanted by the forest-like orchards of diverse and luscious fruit, especially apples.

These orchards seemed worlds away from the cardboard-like apples in some American supermarkets.

Yet, on a small patch of woods near her home in Santa Fe, Kumar discovered a wild apple tree. Could a taste of a feral apple open a door to the wild?

In her book, Kumar takes readers on a transformative journey to rediscover apples. She unearths a rich and complex history at the same time illuminates how we can reimagine our relationship with nature.

Bookworks is located at 4022 Rio Grande Blvd. NW.

AT COLLECTED WORKS

Author Greg Shaw will be in conversation with Charlie Soap about Shaw’s book “Last One Walking: The Life of Cherokee Community Leader Charlie Soap” at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30.

The book brings together memoir, history and current affairs in tracking the life and work of Soap, the husband of Wilma Mankiller, the first woman to serve as principal chief of the Cherokee Nation.

Collected Works is located at 202 Galisteo St. in Santa Fe.

AT GARCIA STREET BOOKS

Three authors will read from and discuss their work at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4. The authors, presented by the New Mexico Book Association, are Dena Moes of Santa Fe (“It’s Your Body: The Young Woman’s Guide to Empowered Sexual Health”), J.A. St. Thomas of Madrid (“A Walk in the Park: A Stephanie Beroe Chronicle”) and Luis Melgar of Santa Fe (“The Guild of Liberal Learning”).

Garcia Street Books is located at 376 Garcia St. in Santa Fe.

AT SOMOS SALON
