Dynamic duo: Country stars LOCASH to perform at Music Fiesta
LOCASH’s newest single is called “Buzzin” and the duo will perform at Music Fiesta during the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta on Saturday, Oct. 12.
A life on tour is what both Chris Lucas and Preston Brust have chosen.
After traveling thousands of miles per month, the pair of musicians can agree on one thing — it’s time for family.
“We actually have a couple days at home,” Brust said. “We catch up on family time and then we’re off on the road again.”
Brust and Lucas had already been on their own solo journey in music as singer, songwriters and guitarists before forming in 2008.
Since then, they have released a handful of albums. Their most recent release is “Buzzin,” meanwhile their latest radio hit is “Hometown Home.”
The single is written by Brust and Lucas with Shy Carter and Mark Trussell.
The pair said the single, “Buzzin,” is about celebrating life while at your favorite bar.
“We worked with Shy and Mark on the song for a while,” Lucas said. “We started performing it live and we ended up making it a single.”
LOCASH snagged an opening slot on Music Fiesta during the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta on Saturday, Oct. 12.
While Music Fiesta kicks off at 1 p.m. with Kyle Martin & Co., LOCASH’s set will begin at 2:30 p.m. and will lead up to the headliner Carly Pearce’s set at 4 p.m.
It will be Lucas’ first time at Balloon Fiesta.
Brust said he’s been to the event coincidentally.
“I remember looking outside and I thought I was being invaded by balloons,” Brust said. “You see pictures all the time on social media. There’s nothing like being there in person to experience the magic. All you can think is, ‘This is crazy.’ It’s like no other experience.”
Since the duo’s inception nearly a decade ago, Brust and Lucas said the music process has evolved over time.
While the duo used to write a lot more, life on the road today includes taking writers on the road.
“We’ll have writers for two or three days with us on the road,” Brust said. “It depends on how we are working together, and there have been times that we will demo the song while driving. We have been on the Kane Brown tour this summer and we got a chance to write with him. We’ve been able to play some songs with him.”
Lucas said songwriter friends in Nashville, Tennessee, will send the duo songs as well.
This makes for a stockpile of songs when it comes time for making an album, Lucas said.
“We’ve been writing so much, too,” Lucas said. “The good thing is that we’ve always been about choosing the best songs. We are pitched a lot of songs and we put them against the ones we’ve written. It comes down to which is the best song. Those are the ones that we record.”
LOCASH is also enjoying the opportunity to be the first act to release music via their Galaxy Label Group, which is distributed by BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville.
Being on stage is where the duo is most comfortable.
“When we get to stage time, we want to give it our all,” Lucas said. “These are the people who spent their hard-earned money on a ticket and they just want to smile for 90 minutes.”
“We want to put some fun in people’s lives that come to our shows,” Brust interjected.
As LOCASH gets closer to its 10-year anniversary, they’ve racked up some amazing accolades.
They’ve charted eight singles, two successful albums and have nearly 800 million global streams, not to mention writing No. 1 hits, “You Gonna Fly” for Keith Urban and “Truck Yeah” for Tim McGraw.
“I try to keep my blinders on because I’m always looking forward,” Brust said. “I don’t want Chris and I to get caught up on where we’ve been. We’ve always been visionaries. We want to have more No. 1 songs, bigger streams and bigger songs. We want to be in movies. We try to always keep focused. Our music has taken us all the way from ‘Good Morning America’ to Australia. This all started with me and him, and it does feel good to take a minute once in a while to see our trajectory.”
