As the Winrock Town Center continues to develop, shoppers at Albuquerque’s first mall — now updated and revitalized — can enjoy a free concert in between visits to nearby boutiques and businesses.

On Friday evenings, the center’s amphitheater will host musical performances in partnership with AMP Concerts and Visit Albuquerque.

David Stroud, events curator for Winrock Town Center, said the free summer series is another way to continue bringing people into the revitalized space.

“We wanted to have different offerings at Winrock and one of them was to utilize our stage and amphitheater and be able to create this community space to celebrate local musicians and bring people together,” Stroud said.

Eventgoers can expect international bands, national traveling bands and local performers. Guests like Max Gomez and Shannon McNally have already taken the stage, and others like Esther Rose and Luciane Dom will play in the upcoming weeks.

During the performances, guests will be able to purchase a variety of food options like Japanese street food truck Mobiyaki ABQ, Loaded Lemon’s lemonade chamoy bar or Latin Flavor’s empanadas.

A beer garden will serve beverages from Santa Fe Brewing Company and Mission Winery.

Stroud said free concerts allow people to have weekend entertainment without worrying about the price.

“We like to do free community events as a kind of thank you to our community, but also to be able to bring offerings that people don’t have to worry about where they can just bring their family and enjoy what we’re providing,” Stroud said.

The concerts also allow local performers the opportunity to reach a new audience.

“We’re trying to support small businesses and by creating these events, we can support local bands by booking them to play,” Stroud added. “We want to create and promote a safe community space for families.”
