“For this show specifically, it’s going to be very straightforward, just a typical showcase,” said Alex Benton, show organizer. “It’s going to be a 90-minute show. Each comic is going to do at least 30 minutes. Sam, Savannah and Christie are going to do at least 30 minutes each. Sam may do a little more than the other two.”
Ridley is originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia, and now lives near Los Angeles, according to a biography he sent to the Journal. He hosts a popular Friday night show called “Punchlines Only” at the famous venue, The Comedy Store, in Hollywood.
Ridley has shared stages with several comedic veterans including Paul Rodriguez, Nikki Glaser, Tony Baker, Che Durena and Tim Meadows. He also shares his personal views on life on his podcast, “Illegal Opinions.”
“I’ve been running shows for three years,” Benton said. “I’ve been putting on shows at least monthly. Recently, I was doing shows weekly, but we’re moving, so this is going to be our first show in this new space at 377 Brewery. And depending on how this show goes, we’re going to do these shows weekly at 377 Brewery.”
Benton had previously been putting on shows at VARA Winery & Distillery’s Nob Hill Tasting Room, which was formerly the Public House.
“We were doing shows there for about six months,” Benton said of the VARA location. “It’s a better deal for me to work with 377 Brewery. They have a separate room, which I’ll be renting, so it will not be in the bar. People can still purchase drinks and bring it into the comedy show.”
Benton is working with a booking agent to get touring comics to be part of his comedy shows once a month and showcase local talent weekly.
“If the shows are weekly, I’ll probably be using a lot of local comics,” Benton said. “The touring comics (will be) coming through on the first Saturday of every month.”
