Making their own reality: Hip-hop duo Atmosphere ready to return with 'Talk Talk,' ABQ show at Revel

Nearly 30 years since beginning to work together, Sean Daley and Anthony Davis continue to challenge themselves.

The duo are known by their stage name Slug and Ant. They make up the hip-hop duo Atmosphere.

Daley and Davis have been on a journey of creation – and on Dec. 1, they will release their latest EP, “Talk Talk,” to the world.

“Anthony started preparing his head for what he needed to do, beat wise,” Daley says. “Then he could feed me the next batch of beats and I kept going with the stream of consciousness. I was already warmed up because the EP is a continuation of the last album.”

Atmosphere’s latest tour is slated to make a stop at Revel ABQ on Sunday, Nov. 19.

Atmosphere has released “Talk Talk (feat. Bat Flower),” and “Rotary Telephone” from “Talk Talk.” The title track comes complete with a music video, which collates hundreds of clips of live performances, fan interactions and behind-the-scenes footage from Atmosphere’s tireless schedule of touring North America and Europe this year.

It was directed and edited by ZooDeVille and the video sees rapper Slug and producer Ant come together night after night to fill darkened rooms with love, light and a little bit of laughter.

The duo’s latest full-length studio album for Rhymesayers Entertainment, “So Many Other Realities Exist Simultaneously,” included singles “Okay,” “Holding My Breath,” and “Bigger Pictures.”

Daley says the record is an almost unnerving excavation of paranoia inspired by the general malaise of a pandemic weary society full of civil unrest, and features some of their most inspired work to date

He wanted to continue what was being said on the previous album.

“I wrote the new songs as kind of a response to ‘Realities.’ The new songs are reactions to that record,” Daley says. “I didn’t give myself enough time to react to them, and we decided to capture it on a new EP.”

For Daley, “Talk Talk” was another opportunity for him to continue his writing exercise and write about there being so many realities.

“We don’t need to be simulations,” he says. “We are taking part in each other’s movie.
