AT BOOKWORKS

Mary Oishi discusses reads from her new collection of poems, “Sidewalk Cruiseship,” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at Bookworks. The collection is separated into 11 short sections by traditional Japanese tankas. Tankas are 31-syllable poems traditionally written in single, unbroken lines.

Oishi’s poems respond to the war in Ukraine, the pandemic and the charged political climate. They also invite readers to witness intimate moments of people and scene within the poet’s beloved city of Albuquerque. Oishi served as Albuquerque Poet Laureate from 2020 to 2022.

Bookworks is located at 4022 Rio Grande Blvd. NW.
