Skating into the role: Canadian Larkyn Austman finds home in the rink with 'Disney on Ice: Into the Magic'

In the magical world of Disney, anything is possible.

Just ask Larkyn Austman.

The Canadian ice skater has found a new home as part of the traveling show, “Disney on Ice: Into the Magic.”

“We just started our tour, and we’re in our third city,” Austman says. “This is my third year with Disney and of course, it’s a very different lifestyle. I love it so much. Competing is very intense. My life on the road now is challenging, but I enjoy every aspect of it.”

Austman plays Elsa in the “Frozen” segment of the show. The traveling show makes a stop for six shows at the Rio Rancho Events Center beginning Friday, Oct. 6, through Sunday, Oct. 8.

The action-packed extravaganza features Disney’s “Moana,” “Frozen,” “Coco,” and “Beauty and the Beast” with other beloved Disney characters.

“Into The Magic” takes families on a high-sea adventure as Moana sets sail with the demigod Maui. Guests will also get to journey across the Marigold Bridge with Miguel from “Coco” .

In the “Beauty and the Beast” segment, Belle shows what it means to be fearless.

In the “Frozen” segment, skaters will glide into the frozen world of Arendelle and interact with two of the most beloved sisters in Disney history – Anna and Elsa.

“It’s such a special role and everyone knows Elsa,” she says. “While I’m skating, I can hear the audience sing along to the words. It’s a magical time.”

Austman grew up skating in Canada and worked her way up to competing at the 2018 Winter Olympics for the Canadian National Team.

After retiring from her competitive career, Austman has enjoyed traveling the world and skating.

“I did what I had dreamed of doing since I was a child,” she says. “Once I accomplished that, I moved on to other shows. What’s amazing to me is how Disney touches the lives of many.”
