AT COLLECTED WORKS

Santa Fe artist John Paul Granillo will be in conversation with Scott Edward Smith, the author and editor of the book “The Art and Journey of John Paul Granillo: Inmate #26553051” at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, at Collected Works.

The book explores the transformative journey of Granillo, who discovered the power of art while incarcerated in a federal prison for 10 years.

His art includes collages, murals and abstract paintings. They’re accompanied by a narrative about prison becoming a place of self-discovery and healing.

He received the Santa Fe Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s “40 Under 40” Award. His work has been shown in the Museum of International Folk Art, El Museo Cultural and in private galleries across the country.

Granillo’s artwork will hang in the Collected Works Gallery through the end of February.

Collected Works is located at 202 Galisteo St., Santa Fe.

AT CHATTER NORTH

Joanne Fay Brown of Santa Fe will read from her debut poetry collection “Independence Day” at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at Chatter North, a presentation of music and poetry. The event will be held at the Center for Contemporary Arts, 1050 Old Pecos Trail, Santa Fe. Tickets are $5-$17 at chatterabq.org or at the door.

IN BERNALILLO

Albuquerque author Baker Morrow will talk about and read from his latest book, “The Horse on the Sidewalk: Stories” at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at the Martha Liebert Public Library, 124 Calle Malinche, Bernalillo.

The charming, connected coming-of-age stories take place in Albuquerque when Eubank Boulevard was the edge of the Northeast Heights. Morrow remembers the town well — he was born and raised here.
