Hundred of kids scramble to catch one of 2,025 balloons falling from the ceiling at the Explora! Science Center & Children’s Museum in Albuquerque on Tuesday, when 1,783 attended the museum’s annual Noon Year’s Eve celebration. The event was designed for families that might not be able to stay up until midnight.

Scheduled for Tuesday evening, the 10th annual New Year’s Eve on the Santa Fe Plaza will feature live music, hot chocolate, biscochitos, warming stations and bonfires. The 2025 light will be suspended 60 feet above the Plaza, then a Zia symbol will be raised just below it at midnight.

This was the second night of Hanukkah, the Jewish eight-day Festival of Lights, celebrated with a nightly menorah lighting, special prayers and fried foods. On Sunday, the lighting of the menorah will take place during the Chanukah on the Plaza celebration that starts at 3:30 p.m. The event will include live music, fire dancers, latkes, doughnuts and more.
A Socorro dove sits in its enclosure at the ABQ BioPark in Albuquerque in mid-December. The birds are extinct in the wild and the BioPark is heavily involved in an effort to conserve the species.
