The city of Albuquerque’s “Be a Friend to Coyotes” page says there are two times of year when human-coyote conflicts increase, including late November through February, when “food is scarce, so coyotes have to get more creative to survive, and young coyotes are dispersing to establish new territories.” Nonetheless, the animals are timid and will try to avoid people, making close-up encounters and conflicts uncommon.
