Private First Class Long, was born in Portales in 1915. Long was drafted into the Battery E, 200th Coast Artillery and in 1941 was stations in the Philippines. United States and Philippine soldiers were ordered to surrender to Imperial Japan during the Battle of Bataan in World War II, on April 9, 1942. Long died on cerebral malaria, in Cabanatuan Prison Camp, August 28, 1942.
