A man died Monday afternoon after crashing his SUV into two parked vehicles on Central NE, according to the Albuquerque Police Department.

Investigators determined shortly after 4 p.m. the driver of a white Toyota FJ was traveling westbound on Central, just west of Eubank NE, when he struck the center median causing the SUV to drive into the eastbound lanes of Central NE before crashing into two parked vehicles in the turn bay from eastbound Central to northbound Eubank, said APD spokesman Gilbert Gallegos in a statement.

Gallegos said the Toyota struck a black Nissan sedan and a white Jeep Grand Cherokee then rolled, ejecting the driver, who struck at least one of the cars before landing on the asphalt.

The driver was transported to a local hospital where he was declared dead.

No occupants of the Nissan were transported to the hospital, but a boy from the Jeep Cherokee was taken to the hospital for lacerations to his head, he is in stable condition, Gallegos said.

Gallegos added at this time speed doesn't appear to be a factor in the crash, and the drivers of the Nissan and Jeep were not impaired, but the sobriety of the Toyota driver is unknown.

He said the investigation is still in its early stages.
