A woman is accused of driving drunk — and into oncoming traffic — before a deadly crash last month on Paseo del Norte.

Adamaris Martinez, 24, is charged with DWI-related vehicular homicide and great bodily harm by vehicle in the Jan. 21 crash that left Jade Lucero, 25, dead.

Martinez’s attorney could not be reached Saturday.

Police responded sometime before 1 a.m. to a crash involving a wrong-way driver on westbound Paseo del Norte, just west of Jefferson, according to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court. Officers found Martinez had crashed into another vehicle that Lucero was riding in.

Lucero was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the man driving Lucero told them he tried to swerve out of Martinez’s way but she mirrored his movements and crashed into them. Martinez told police she had been headed home from a relative’s birthday and drank at least three cocktails before driving.

Martinez told police “statements that did not make sense,” including that she believed someone else had been driving, according to the complaint. Police said Martinez “smelled heavily” of alcohol, had slurred speech and failed multiple sobriety tests.
