A man was found dead Sunday after a fire near Smith’s in the North Valley.

Police did not release the man’s identity.

The Albuquerque Police Department received a call at around 10:30 a.m. of a dead body behind Smith’s in the 6100 block of Fourth Street in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, south of Osuna, APD spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos said in a news release.

Officers later learned that Bernalillo County Fire & Rescue had responded to an overnight fire behind a nearby business, he said.

It is unclear if there is a connection between the fire and dead man.

“After a preliminary investigation of the scene, APD homicide detectives were called out to take over the investigation,” Gallegos said.

Attempts were made to reach out to BCFR for more on the fire, but they did not respond as of Sunday afternoon.
