From KUNM to PBS: Nash Jones named new host of ‘New Mexico in Focus’
Nash Jones, the incoming host of the New Mexico PBS show “New Mexico in Focus.”
Nash Jones, an award-winning journalist who most recently anchored shows for the NPR-affiliated KUNM, is moving to host New Mexico PBS’ prime-time news show “New Mexico in Focus.”
An Albuquerque native, Jones began their career in public media at KUNM in 2018, racking up awards from the Public Media Journalists Association, the Society of Professional Journalists and New Mexico Press Women.
“I’m excited to be continuing in public media in New Mexico — there are not a lot of opportunities to do this work,” Jones said Thursday.
Jones, slated to host the show starting in May, said they hope to do more segments outside the studio.
“That’s something that I’ve been doing as a reporter at KUNM, and I’m looking forward to getting us to get out into the community and bring the community to ‘New Mexico in Focus,’ rather than always having folks come into the studio,” Jones said.
Jones joins a team at “New Mexico in Focus” that includes Executive Producer Jeff Proctor and Lou DiVizio, the show’s senior producer.
“Nash happens to be from here and rooted here and with a really stellar track record of journalism in New Mexico,” Proctor said. “This is somebody who’s got their own sources and their own sensibilities for what audiences want in our state.”
Jones’ presence isn’t just missed on the airwaves, but also in the newsroom, KUNM News Director Megan Kamerick said.
“Nash was just an amazing co-worker because they always went above and beyond, they were always ready to take on new challenges,” Kamerick said. “So, yeah, I really miss their presence quite a bit.”
