A man died in the hospital days after being seriously injured outside a North Valley grocery store.

Gilbert Gallegos, an Albuquerque police spokesman, said detectives learned on Monday that 41-year-old Michael Trujillo had died of his injuries.

Gallegos did not give a cause of death.

"A homicide investigation was started and detectives are working on several leads," he said.

Gallegos said officers initially responded on Oct. 16 to reports of a man being seriously injured in the parking lot of a John Brooks Supermarket at 12th and Candelaria NW.

Police found Trujillo injured and he was taken to a hospital, where he died days later.
