Man killed in crash involving a Doña Ana County Sheriff's Office vehicle
A Doña Ana Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle rear-ended a car off Interstate 25 in Las Cruces earlier this week, killing a 67-year-old man.
New Mexico State Police spokesperson Wilson Silver said at 6:40 p.m. Monday, police responded to a two-vehicle crash on I-25 near mile marker 5.
Silver said a Hyundai SUV, driven by a 57-year-old woman, was traveling north on I-25 when she turned around in the median and went south. A Dona Ana County Sheriff’s vehicle was southbound with emergency lights and sirens activated when the Hyundai pulled out in front of the patrol car, causing the deputy to rear-end the Hyundai.
Silver said the passenger of the Hyundai, Ismael Misquez, was taken to a hospital, where he died. The driver was also taken to a hospital with unknown injuries.
He said deputies were also taken to a hospital and treated for undisclosed injuries.
It is unclear whether there will be charges against the woman.
The incident is being investigated by the New Mexico State Police with assistance from the New Mexico State Police Vehicular Crimes Unit, Silver said.
