π§ NMDOT to repave, restripe I-25 frontage roads between MLK and Lomas π§
Drivers who use the Interstate 25 frontage roads between Martin Luther King Jr. and Lomas can look forward to a smoother ride soon β but expect some delays in the short term.
Starting Thursday, the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) will begin repaving and restriping work on those sections of the roadway.
Over the past few months, some readers β including Janie McGuigan β asked if something would be done to improve the frontage roads.
βThe asphalt pavement is badly rutted, broken and missing chunks of asphalt,β she said. βThe pavement is so rough it feels like my carβs front end will become damaged driving on it.β
NMDOT District 3 spokesperson Kim Gallegos said in a news release that work is scheduled to take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is expected to last five or six days, excluding the weekend.
On Thursday and Friday, the southbound frontage road will be closed, while there will be lane closures on the northbound frontage road from Monday to Wednesday, Gallegos said.
The southbound frontage road, which was milled in August, will be repaved and restriped, while the northbound frontage road will be milled, repaved and restriped, she said.
Traffic control will be in place and access to businesses will be maintained, though delays and detours are expected. Overnight closures may occur, if needed, according to the NMDOT.
βNMDOT urges drivers to use caution, follow posted signs, and expect brief delays in the area,β Gallegos said.
