Trial set to begin Monday in 2023 hit-and-run killing
Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday in the trial of a man accused of fatally running over 49-year-old Lincoln McKenna in 2023 at a Northwest Albuquerque park.
Christopher Joseph Martinez, 40, is charged with first-degree murder for allegedly striking McKenna with a Ford Ranger pickup at Valley Neighborhood Park, 4000 San Isidro NW. McKenna died at a hospital about a week later.
The trial is scheduled through Friday in 2nd Judicial District Court before Judge Courtney Weaks. Martinez is also charged with leaving the scene of an accident and tampering with evidence.
Albuquerque police responded about 2 a.m. on May 18, 2023, and found Mc- Kenna severely injured in the grass, according to a criminal complaint filed in Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court. McKenna’s friend, Andrea Perea, told police at the scene that she called McKenna and asked for help after Martinez became aggressive with her, the complaint said. McKenna arrived at the park on his bicycle and the two men argued, it said.
Perea, who is listed as a witness for the prosecution, said she told the two men to stop arguing, the complaint said. Martinez began to drive away but turned around and struck McKenna as he was riding his bicycle, Perea told police.
Martinez then told Perea “he deserved it” before driving away, the complaint said.
