Two teens injured, charged in shooting at Albuquerque park
One teenager was stabbed and another was shot during a fight at a Northeast Albuquerque park Wednesday evening.
Both teens survived and both were charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, police said in a news release.
Officers were called to Villela Park, near San Mateo and Comanche NE, at about 6 p.m. Wednesday on reports of gunfire.
Witnesses told investigators that a 13-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy had arranged to meet at the park on social media.
The younger teen drew a firearm and the older teen attempted to grab it. A single shot was fired during the struggle, according to the news release.
One of the teens was shot and the other was apparently stabbed, according to the release.
Both boys were taken to a local hospital. The 15-year-old has since been released and booked into the Bernalillo County Juvenile Detention Center.
The younger boy was still in the hospital Thursday evening.
It was one of two shootings police investigated on Wednesday night.
The second incident took place just after 7 p.m. in the 200 block of Maxine NE, near the intersection of Juan Tabo and Central NE.
DeAguero said officers arrived to find a person who had been shot and was in critical condition — and despite immediate medical attention, police say — the person died.
He said one person is in custody in connection with the incident.
