UNM mandates cyber security training for employees

The University of New Mexico is mandating all of its employees take cybersecurity training each year.

The first year of training must be completed by Dec. 2, according to a press release by UNM issued last week.

"In today’s digital age, all institutions — public and private — are vulnerable to ransomware, malware, and other cyber threats," the release said. "This training is designed to help university employees recognize and respond to cyber threats, ensuring both personal information and the critical systems we rely on remain secure."

The training, called "Securing the Human," includes topics such as phishing emails and the appropriate steps to take if employees encounter something suspicious.
