OPINION: Speak Up!

From the party which brought you ‘Infrastructure Week’ we now have ‘AFFORDABILITY WEEK’. POTUS is running up against issues important to average people. He can’t just gaslight us into believing tariffs benefit us. The party he’s most interested in is in the new ballroom at taxpayer expense. Hypocrisy wins again. MY

Regarding “Study shows nearly 3,000 UNHOUSED PEOPLE in Albuquerque” (Nov. 17): Not surprising. I think there are more. Are they asked where they came from and why? I suspect that our sanctuary city status is a drawing card for many particularly those who panhandle all over town. Am I wrong? DC

Regarding “OPINION: When UNIVERSITIES become dropout factories” (Nov. 16): David Stoesz, in his Nov. 16 column on universities becoming dropout factories, raises valid points. However, he ignores the elephant in the room: the poor K-12 educational system in our state. Colleges have to cope with large percentages of high school graduates severely deficient in reading, writing and math. RB

Regarding “OPINION: Keller is the right choice in the runoff election” (Nov. 16): In his opinion piece supporting Tim Keller for mayor, MARTY CHAVEZ failed to mention an important thing. Chavez lost his bid for a third mayoral term. Albuquerqueans wanted a change in leadership. They do again. That’s why in the first round 64.3% of the voters chose candidates other than Keller. DM

President Trump claims that we have the greatest ECONOMY in our history and that jobs are being added at the fastest pace ever. Meanwhile, Ford and GM are closing factories and laying off workers. Kroger and Wendy’s are closing outlets and laying off workers. Trump must be living somewhere else. AF

MAYOR KELLER is a good man. He is a man of compassion and empathy. He is not hateful, mean spirited or selfish. He has done much to help those who are struggling. Homeless. It has been his mission to reduce crime and improve the environment and the economy. OS.

The money to cover the ACA SUBSIDIES was there, but Trump sent it to Argentina. Republicans didn’t care because they’ve been trying to kill the ACA ever since Democrats passed it. They have had plenty of time to fix it or come up with something better, but they haven’t bothered. JH

DARREN WHITE says he will remove all tent encampments on day one. I emailed asking about his plans for the evictees. I received an automated reply that I would receive a response in 48 hours. It has been at least four days and still no response. The silence speaks volumes. SZ

What do the government’s ICE ATTACKS on those protesting their tactics bring to mind? Kent State. DZ

If anyone is not clear on who they should support for MAYOR, all you need to do is drive the length of Central Avenue within ABQ city limits. Now we learn it’s among the deadliest in the nation. Long past time for a change! Accountability! EC

It’s got to stop! JUDGES who make decisions based on personal political feelings, and not the law, must be removed from the bench. MBB

In perhaps an unintended way, the presence of NATIONAL GUARD troops in Española, is proving an important point. When crime is confronted, criminals cease their operations. We’ve seen in other cities as well around the nation. And yet, the far left keeps promoting lawlessness through the defunding of our police. GH

Trump’s “peace” PLAN FOR UKRAINE echoes Chamberlain’s 1938 appeasement of Hitler. That gamble failed disastrously. Today, rewarding Russia with concessions invites more aggression. If this plan holds, Ukraine loses sovereignty, Europe loses stability, and America becomes less safe. Appeasement never brings peace. America must support a just peace not capitulation. AM

To all the people trying to blame the Republicans for the SHUTDOWN, the bill was a CR which Democrats had passed 13 times before with zero GOP opposition. The Democrats wanted to blackmail the GOP for a health subsidy extension they had themselves voted to end. Fault: Democrats. KJ

Love the Sunday “HOW YOUR DELEGATES VOTED” column. One great addition would be to briefly add why our delegates voted as they did on each measure. Just knowing a yea/nay is often not enough and the reasoning would increase our understanding of the process. JA

Trump’s idea for how to put an end to Putin’s WAR ON UKRAINE is to just put an end to Ukraine. KT

MAYORAL DECISION made easy. If you feel you are better off, the city is better off and you are safer than you were 4 or 8 years ago then vote for Keller. If not vote for White. Simple as that! TW

NEW MEXICO struggles with one of the nation’s highest violent crime rates, chronic poverty, rampant DWI deaths, failing schools, widespread opioid addiction, corrupt political machines, water scarcity, brain drain, doctor shortages, sanctuary policies, an out of state influx, and right-to-life restrictions. Which party got us here? MR
