OPINION: Speak Up!

The death of Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist, is a tragedy. Does anyone remember Trump’s suggestion that former Republican SEN. LIZ CHENEY should be shot in the face nine times? Was that dangerous political rhetoric? Or just a temper tantrum? MB

What is wrong with Congresswoman Ilhan Omar who lashes out with such bitterness when speaking about the assassination of CHARLIE KIRK? Her hatred will only destroy her within. American people do not need to hear such hard-hearted bitterness. We need to respect others’ differences and reach across the aisle. KC

There’s something terribly wrong with our country when POLITICAL VIOLENCE — The assassination of Charlie Kirk, the attempts on Trump’s life — are becoming alarmingly common and are actually celebrated by some. If not celebrated, they are viewed with indifference. Though I was only 5 when JFK was assassinated, the horror still remains. DC

The DOJ has removed from its website its own study that says “far-right extremists have committed far more IDEOLOGICALLY MOTIVATED HOMICIDES than far-left or radical Islamist extremists.” They say they are “reviewing online content.” Sure. JH

The shooting of conservative activist CHARLIE KIRK is another act of runaway gun violence in the U.S. It is telling that President Trump has ordered all flags to be flown at half-mast. . EJG

Gun-owning parents or family who enable a juvenile to take their guns to class, for whatever excuse, should have to spend a month in city jail. Mom, grandpa, whoever, go to jail. Your SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS do not include endangering other people’s children. That would make a difference. AH

The attorney general begins investigating individuals who fund progressive organizations. Trump sues the New York Times for reporting on Trump’s businesses. Trump demands companies fire employees for expressing their views on social media. Anyone care to remember the FIRST AMENDMENT — freedom of the press; freedom of speech? AF

Monitoring constitutionally protected FREE SPEECH is a slippery slope. Corporations can establish rules when on the clock, but off the clock? Social media has made it easier to speak your mind about any issue, even if it is insensitive and idiotic. Personal responsibility perhaps needs to be taught once more. GH

In this country, you’re INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY. It’s one of the bedrocks of our judicial system. If we required every public official who’s accused of wrongdoing be removed, we wouldn’t have many politicians holding office, let alone officials appointed to serve important roles. Let the courts do their work. RB

A president attempts a COUP to remain in office in Brazil and is sentenced to over 27 years in prison. Attempt it in the U.S. and your sentence is four more years in the White House. And we’re the nation of law and order? The beacon on the hill? RS

PBS News interviewed Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on New Mexico’s contrasting approach to using the NATIONAL GUARD to assist law enforcement. She explained NM’s logical and well thought out approach vs. the brute force approach used by the federal government. She spoke clearly and distinctly. I was really proud of her. KMC

RUSSIA’S DRONE RAID over Poland wasn’t a mistake, no matter how much POTUS wishes it so. Putin is playing him to the hilt. POTUS is a weak leader who seems to have few answers for major wars raging in Ukraine and the Middle East. Bye bye Nobel Peace Prize. MY

Isn’t wasting hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars over 20 years on a failed SPACEPORT America enough? It wasn’t a good idea then, isn’t now, and misguided politicians need to be held accountable for thinking otherwise. WM

How wasteful and unfair of the Trump administration to revoke the RAIL TRAIL funding, which was awarded in 2022 and with construction in progress. I also find it appalling that our federal Department of Transportation believes tax dollars collected from all Americans should only benefit the Americans with cars. EF

It is neither my responsibility nor my desire to pay for some rich kid’s DAY CARE, but my real objection is the socialist buy-in to kids belonging to the state and that buy-in’s weakening, if not destroying, the family. BG

I wonder if there will be a work requirement for the governor’s new UNIVERSAL CHILD CARE system? KH

I’m not against DAY CARE ASSISTANCE for those who would qualify but universal is not needed. What is needed is more police, correctional officers/facilities, CYFD overhaul, homeless mental illness/drug programs, property tax cuts. Obvious desperate Democratic vote buying scheme to cover up NM’s big picture failures. MK

Single-payer is the future of HEALTH CARE. Until the U.S. joins the rest of the world in guaranteeing health care as a basic human right to all citizens, the costs will continue to balloon and more people will suffer or die. BS

Please do not let MAYOR KELLER get wind of the Little Theater’s financial problems or we’ll soon see signs for “Tiny Tim’s Tiny Homes” at only $500,000 cost for each to the city. He’ll also want to build a soccer stadium in the parking lot. JB
