SpeakUp!: Netherwood Park playground a victim of NM's disgusting politics
Former Lt. Gov. DIANE DENISH calls Gov. MLG to request a line-item veto for legislative approved money for a park playground. MLG wields her pen, the money’s gone. Parks & Director Dave Simon hand-delivers park documents to Denish at her home. This is everyday crap New Mexico politics and is disgusting. Shame on those three. GC
Gov. MLG and former Lt. Gov. Diane Denish just showed us the ugly side of politics with MLG’s line-item veto of $200,000 for a playground in NETHERWOOD PARK. They tossed majority rules and one person, one vote in the trash. Both should be ashamed of their actions. But Denish showed no shame at all. HR
A former politician calling their friends in high places to kill a neighborhood-supported project for children is the LOWEST OF LOW. I wonder what it’s like to be such a miserable old (woman). N.M. politics at it best folks. GS
Kudos to the BUSINESS OUTLOOK, March 25, for three articles on New Mexico’s potential advantage in generating electricity by geothermal means. “The Earth is Always Hot” by Megan Gleason, her Tech Outlook podcast featuring NM Tech’s Shari Kelley, and Ryan Boetel’s column were excellent. Solar, wind and geothermal — an unbeatable combo. BS
ABQ Journal (March 23) headline boldly states “LOBO LETDOWN.” No way. Coach Richard Pitino and company accomplished what Mayor Tim Keller has yet to achieve. The UNM Lobos brought ABQ together and gave us a reason to celebrate, they made us proud. A true team effort. MD
If the Legislature is going to enact laws to try and reduce crime, that is the time to consider reinstating the DEATH PENALTY for killing a first responder. JMH
Good to see the feds taking over the prosecution in the Justin Hare case. The brutal murder of this NMSP officer definitely warrants consideration of the DEATH PENALTY, which would not have been possible had the case been tried in New Mexico. N.M. should not have abolished this penalty. DC
Time to get CAPITAL PUNISHMENT back on the books in N.M. Bill Richardson did this state a huge disservice in removing it. RF
Unfortunately, in today’s world, the DEATH PENALTY does not mean death. It means years of incarceration at taxpayers’ expense. The sentence should have one appeal by an unbiased court to determine a fair trial and then the penalty is finished. We need to get serious about crime. GH
When I retired from APS, I had to give up my SICK LEAVE, which was capped at 200 days. If it hadn’t been capped, I would have had over 350 days. How is it appropriate for the outgoing superintendent to start his retirement five months early using his sick leave? JB
I’ve generally appreciated the APS superintendent’s work, but it’s infuriating he’s using sick time to shave over three months off his contract. Teachers often retire with hundreds of hours of SICK TIME, zero of which we can use while our replacement does our job and zero of which is reimbursed. MLE
FIFTH OFFICER RESIGNS amid DWI inquiry and quoted as saying what he got caught up in was generational. Sounds much like the reason why young people join gangs that show considerable commitment to criminal activity. Youths may have an excuse due to traumatic upbringing. What excuse do these officers have? DD
Driver of pickup truck runs red light, T-bones classic car leaving the driver with serious injuries. Mayor hugs driver of truck, glad he’s OK. Meanwhile, driver of car has injuries that have forever changed his life. The accident is investigated internally. No accountability at CITY HALL. TC
I keep calling the Mayor’s Office about the case against CHIEF HAROLD MEDINA and no call back. I hope they are not trying to sweep it under the covers. He did wrong and has to pay for it just like the rest of us would have to. EM
Our state government officials do not understand basic business: raise prices, reduce sales. Lower prices and increase sales. This applies to the OIL BUSINESS as well as all other businesses. Also if government increases regulation on doing business, cutting margins, this will also make buying leases less attractive. Try reducing fees. JH
Excellent editorial on March 24 regarding the PRC’S refusal to approve a gas storage facility. It appears the MLG-appointed commissioners let left-wing zealots rule the day without listening to common sense. When gas is cut off and/or rates skyrocket, then what, just say no to common sense? TP
I just want to say that I wholeheartedly agree with your editorial in the Sunday Journal, March 17, “PRC purists have no plan but to ‘end fossil fuels.’” I’m pretty worried about the FUEL AND POWER SHORTAGES that will be coming to us if our esteemed leaders don’t start realizing how unrealistic many of their mandates are. MW
JENNY RAMO’S otherwise well-written article on optimism in the Sunday Journal, March 17, has one glaring error. She said our scrappy people “...suffer no fools.” The evidence of this is we continue to elect liberal Democrats who seem to want to do nothing but ruin our state. JS
Every time Gov. MLG gives us a mandate, it really is the act of a dictator. Why have the citizens of New Mexico not been informed of the high number of illegal MIGRANTS crossing our border into our state? She needs to resign. KK
I am tired of everyone BLAMING ONLY THE USA for the current condition of the illegal immigrants in this country. Blame goes to the leaders of the countries they emigrate from, the countries allowing passage and the cartels. Our open border policy is part of the problem. Not all. DW
Thank you governor for taking away guns from law-abiding citizens and thank you SCOTUS for giving them to illegal aliens. JMW
I fear for our COUNTRY’S FUTURE. We have no borders. Equal justice is gone. The FBI is corrupted. We are close to a one-party rule. Government is mostly corrupt, too big to be effective, so far in debt we will never reduce it. JFH
Has anybody noticed how well things are going with U.S. TRANSPORTATION? Planes, trains, automobiles, and infrastructure all failing. It’s almost like appointing a completely unqualified secretary of transportation in favor of woke DEI initiatives isn’t a great idea. Elections matter people. TT
Looks like 2020 news coverage all over again. By omission, our MEDIA OUTLETS, except Fox, will not report on the congressional hearing on the Biden’s financial dealings. Not a laptop this time, but from a credible associate with first-hand knowledge. Journalism is still dead; long live political corruption. GT
Every time I read an article about the decrease in the USA BIRTHRATE and the various factors that influence it, why is there never a mention of the impact of 73,000,000 abortions performed in the USA between 1973 and 2023? PH
When are our judges going to stop RELEASING FELONS awaiting trial with a trial date like the fentanyl delivery men from Mexico or New Mexico? Isn’t it obvious they can’t be trusted to show up? This is ridiculous. The judges should be fired. EM
More federal CORPORATE WELFARE won’t save solar’s failures. Let capitalism work: new tech; new entrepreneurs; some fail; others succeed. Don’t consumers benefit from the oft-promised decreasing prices of renewables? Cheap panels come from supply and demand, not from another government redistribution of taxpayers’ billions, far exceeding Obama’s $60 billion Solyndra fiasco. RJB
Mayor Tim Keller wants to spend taxpayer money on a CROSSWALK so the law-abiding citizens who live along Central will stop killing themselves by stepping out in front of cars. Yet, there is a charter school on Lomas near Tramway that the city refuses to install a crosswalk. Priorities. SV
I left New Mexico after graduating from UNM for the golden opportunities in California like many others I knew in 1968 because of Democrat politicians like Gov. Lujan Grisham who turned their constituents into lemmings of WELFARE DEPENDENCY. Kalifornia today is just another N.M. mess due to Democrat rule. TMG
Arab terrorists are trouncing MSM reporters in the battle for hearts and minds. Terrorists predicted that, if they attacked Israel in a way that left it no choice but to retaliate massively, THE MEDIA would soon forget the attack and focus on the shiny object of suffering children. 100% correct. KM
The perpetrators of GENOCIDE IN GAZA are Hamas. Hamas started the war, uses Palestinians as human shields, conceals its terrorists and weapons in hospitals and civilian homes; it forbids civilians from leaving war zones and hijacks 60% of the food aid entering Gaza. Hamas commits genocide against its own people. MA
