New Mexico set to host Utah State — and Bronco Mendenhall — in 2025

New Mexico’s 2025 Mountain West schedule — featuring a home game against coach Bronco Mendenhall and Utah State — was announced Tuesday via release.
UNM will play the Aggies at University Stadium — the third straight season the two schools have met — in addition to hosting Colorado State, San Diego State and Nevada. In turn, the Lobos will travel to UNLV, Boise State, Air Force and San Jose State, the latter of which UNM hasn’t played at since 2020.
Dates and kickoff times for UNM’s eight conference games have not been announced.
In 2024, UNM traveled to Logan, Utah and beat the Aggies 50-45. Utah State last visited Albuquerque in 2023, defeating the Lobos 44-41 in double overtime.
The Lobos (5-7 in 2024) also have 2025 non-conference games at Michigan (Aug. 30) and UCLA (Sept. 13) in addition to hosting Idaho State (Sept. 6) and rival New Mexico State (Sept. 27).
UNM’s tilt with Utah State will likely be the program’s most anticipated league game of the season if only for one reason: The Aggies are entering their first year under Mendenhall, who left UNM after just one season to coach in Logan, Utah.
The game also represents the last time UNM will play Utah State as members of the Mountain West.
Colorado State, San Diego State, Boise State, Fresno State and Utah State are all leaving the conference to join the Pac-12 at the start of the 2026-27 academic year.
Of UNM’s eight conference opponents, four finished .500 or better; Boise State and UNLV both appeared in last week’s Mountain West Championship, a 21-7 Broncos win.
Nevada (3-10, 0-7), San Diego State (3-9, 2-5), Utah State (4-8, 3-4) and Air Force (5-7, 3-4) all finished with worse or equal records to the Lobos in 2024.
