Combat sports: Valdez, Nez win on West Coast

Two New Mexico fighters, one a boxer, the other an MMA fighter, scored victories on the West Coast Friday night.

At the Tachi Palace Casino Resort in Lemoore, California, Albuquerque MMA heavyweight Billy Ray Valdez defeated Larry Gonzales of Clovis, California by unanimous decision on an LFA card.

Valdez, who trains at FIT-NHB, improved his professional record to 4-1. Gonzales is 5-4.

At the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Washington, Bloomfield welterweight boxer Rolyn Nez improved his record to 5-0 (three knockouts) with a victory by unanimous decision over Cruz Becerra Monteon (1-1, one KO) of Madera, California.
