A slow start likely cost Samantha Ginithan a victory. Instead, the Las Cruces boxer settled for a four-round draw against Jennah Creason Wednesday on a pro boxing card in Jamestown, California.

Ginithan (1-0-1, one knockout) was informed by her corner after the first round that her inactivity had cost her the round against the more aggressive Creason.

The Las Cruces southpaw gradually picked up the pace, clearly winning rounds three and four on the Journal’s scorecard as she landed the more telling blows. The Journal also scored round two for Ginithan, scoring the bout 39-37 for the Las Crucen, as did one of the three judges. Two judges, however, saw it even at 38-38 — resulting in a majority draw.

Creason, an 18-year-old from Visalia, California, is 2-0-1 with no KOs.

SANCHEZ-GRIFFIN: In New York City, Albuquerque’s Jason Sanchez (14-4-1, four KOs) and Avious Griffin (16-0, 15 KOs) both made weight on Wednesday for Thursday’s 10-round bout at Sony Arena. The vacant WBC USA welterweight title belt will be at stake.

The Sanchez-Griffin bout is the main event of a card scheduled to be streamed on DAZN, starting at 5:30 p.m. MT.
