Holm parting ways with the UFC
Albuquerque combat-sports star Holly Holm has been granted a release from her UFC contract and will seek opportunities elsewhere, her longtime agent and local promoter said on Monday.
Lenny Fresquez said he wasn’t free to talk in specifics about those opportunities but said they involve both MMA and boxing. Holm was a world champion boxer before she undertook an MMA career that includes a UFC bantamweight title via a dramatic upset victory over then-unbeaten champion Ronda Rousey in 2015.
Holm compiled a 32-2-3 record as a professional boxer. She was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in in 2022.
As an MMA fighter, Holm has a 15-7 record.
Fresquez said the move reflects nothing negative regarding the UFC, which first signed Holm to a contract in 2014. Sixteen of Holm’s MMA fights have been staged on UFC cards.
“It’s been a great relationship,” Fresquez said. “This is just about Holly taking advantage of other opportunities in her last few fights.”
Holm, an Albuquerque native, turned 43 in October.
