The Outpost Ice Arenas heats up this weekend with the NAHL New Mexico Ice Wolves hosting their longtime division rival, the Lone Star Brahmas at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Friday is 80s night featuring throwback tunes and a decade inspired fashion show with prizes for the best dressed.

Saturday will host a special tribute to Petr Philippov, a longstanding member of the Ice Wolves hockey community who arrived in Albuquerque from Russia in 2019 for the Ice Wolves inaugural season. Philippov remained in the U.S. for college but returns home to Russia next week as his student visa is expiring.

LAST WEEK: The Ice Wolves packed up the bus and hit the road to Shreveport, Louisiana for a weekend series against the Mudbugs. Shreveport has proven to be a tough opponent in seasons past, but this time around the Ice Wolves went 2-0 on the weekend securing their first ever sweep in Shreveport. Goalies Gavin Schahn and Jackson Silverberg were a force between the pipes, letting in only three goals over the weekend for a 4-1 win Friday for Schahn and 5-2 Saturday from Silverberg.

RECORDS AND STANDINGS: The Brahmas are second in the South Division and third overall in the league after 13 games. The Ice Wolves fall right under Lone Star in divisional rankings holding on to second place. The Ice Wolves travelled to Lone Star for preseason games over Labor Day weekend that delivered hard hitting, physical hockey, a style the South Division is known for and is sure to make an appearance on the ice for the upcoming matchup.

PLAYERS TO KNOW: Rookie Brock Fairbanks put up a pair of goals over the weekend in Shreveport, earning a point per game. Fairbanks is currently second on the team in goals and assists with six each, behind Andy Earl who has seven goals and seven assists.
