Week 11 prep football games to watch
1. Las Cruces vs. Centennial, 7 p.m. Friday, Field of Dreams: An extended Week 11 GTW must begin with this, the District 3-6A championship game and a pairing of two of Class 6A’s premier teams. Hawks are undefeated, Bulldawgs are hoping to play their way into a first-round bye.
2. Rio Rancho at Cleveland, 7 p.m. Friday: This, surprisingly, has less urgency and importance than usual, at least as it pertains to the District 1-6A standings. But of course, it remains a potent rivalry game.
3. St. Michael’s at Robertson, 7 p.m. Friday: A wonderful matchup for multiple reasons. There is the nature of this rivalry, which is possibly the most intense in Class 3A. It is the District 2-3A championship game. And it pairs two undefeated teams. Should be sensational theater.
4. Gadsden at Deming, 7 p.m. Friday: A pair of top-four teams in Class 5A; the Panthers can lock up third place in District 2-5A, and a certain first-round bye, with a victory against the dangerous Wildcats.
5. Legacy Academy at Santa Rosa, 7 p.m. Friday: The undefeated Silverbacks ride into Santa Rosa for what could be their toughest test of the season, and on top of that, this is going to be a District 2-2A championship game.
6. Miyamura at Los Alamos, 7 p.m. Friday: The winner here claims the District 1-5A championship, and also a for-sure home game in the first round of the 5A playoffs. Lots at stake.
7. Everyone else. The regular season ends with some in-city rivalry games like Farmington-Piedra Vista and Goddard-Roswell, regional rivalry games like Hobbs-Carlsbad, Bloomfield trying to cap an undefeated regular season at Grants, West Mesa with a must-win scenario at Santa Fe, and Artesia at the Field of Dreams to play Mayfield on Saturday, the final day of the regular season.
