Volcano Vista's Kenyon Aguino reaches 2,000 points
Volcano Vista’s Kenyon Aguino puts up a jumper over a group of Cleveland defenders during a Jan. 30 game at Cleveland High School. Aguino and the Hawks are seeking their fourth consecutive state title this week.
It's not uncommon this time of the prep basketball season to see players reaching 1,000 career points.
It is rare to have one get to 2,000 points.
But Volcano Vista senior forward Kenyon Aguino achieved that point total on Wednesday night, scoring a team-best 37 points in the top-ranked Hawks' 97-65 win over visiting Cleveland.
Aguino, who has signed to play collegiately for the University of Montana, came in needing just five points to hit the 2,000-point mark. He reached that total in the first quarter.
The 6-foot-7 Aguino has 2,032 points at Volcano Vista through this District 1-5A victory. He was honored in a postgame ceremony Wednesday. The win clinches the regular-season district title for the Hawks.
