Stokes starts at UNM
Garnett Stokes, center, officially takes over as the University of New Mexico’s 23rd president on March 1, 2018, but she stopped by the Student Union Building the day before for the “Lobo Day” festivities that commemorate UNM’s founding in 1889. Before posing for a group picture with the red T-shirt-clad students, Stokes addressed the crowd, saying, “This is a great way to get started — to celebrate the wonderful accomplishments of this university with all of you who are here. I’m so excited to join you. I’m so excited to become a Lobo for life.” Next to Stokes are, at left, Kaylie Huizenga, executive director of Lobo Spirit, and, at right, Sally Midani, vice president for the Associated Students of UNM.
