Huevos rancheros are a staple of New Mexico breakfast menus.

While Albuquerque has lots of great options, a few really stand out.

We scoured the city to find the places where you can find the best huevos rancheros in Albuquerque.

1. Tia Betty Blue’s

Address: 1248 San Mateo SE

Hours: Wednesday-Friday, 7 a.m. - 2 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Website:tiabettyblues.com

Phone: (505) 268-1955

Here’s how we know Tia Betty Blue’s takes her huevos rancheros seriously: she opens early and closes at 2 p.m. That means her main focus is breakfast. And there’s no better breakfast meal than huevos rancheros. And the other reason we know is because a lot of people say how great they are. (Getting them with carne adovado seems to be the favorite.) But they shouldn’t preclude you from trying the breakfast burrito or breakfast enchilada. Bring a friend or two and try them all.

2. The Original Cocina Azul

Address: 1134 Mountain Rd NW

Hours: 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. Daily

Website:https://cocinaazul.com/

Phone: (505) 831-2500

The Original Cocina Azul (and the other Cocina Azuls for that matter) just does food right – morning, noon, and night. But their Huevos Rancheros are especially… well, special. Try them with Frank Sr.’s red chile for that extra kick. Feel free to pair them with standard breakfast fare, like pancakes and bacon.

3. El Patio de Albuquerque

Address: 142 Harvard Dr. SE

Hours: 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. Daily

Website:www.elpatioabq.com

Phone: (505) 268-4245

No “best of” list of Mexican food in Albuquerque would be complete without including El Patio. And this is certainly true when it comes to their Huevos Rancheros. All of their food is authentic and homemade, and that’s certainly reflected in their reviews. Get them smothered in green chile for extra enjoyment. And make sure you get the sopapillas with honey.

4. Loyola’s

Address: 4500 Central Ave SE

Hours: Tuesday - Saturday 7 a.m.- 2:30 p.m.

Website:http://www.loyolasfamilyrestaurant.com/

Phone: (505) 268-6478

Loyola’s is another great breakfast-lunch place with a dedication to meals served in the light of day. They offer a standard Huevos Rancheros plate, but also a “mini” version for smaller appetites. Top it with their homemade chorizo or guacamole.

5. La Mexicana

Address: 304 Coal Ave SW

Hours: Wednesday - Saturday 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Website:https://www.lamexicananm.com/

Phone: (505) 242-2558

La Mexicana was founded back in 1932 when you had to make huevos rancheros by hand with fresh ingredients, and the menu and style of cooking hasn’t changed much – to the delight of its patrons. Those same patrons also rave about their breakfast burritos and chile rellenos.
