ABQ employers participate in inaugural business open house
Department of Workforce Solutions Secretary Sarita Nair presents to employers at an inaugural business open house in Downtown Albuquerque.
It was a packed house at the New Mexico Workforce Connection office in Downtown Albuquerque on Thursday. Employers filled up the space to attend an inaugural business open house.
The event was like a reverse job fair, where employers instead of people seeking employment attended the event to hear from the state about effective hiring practices, learn about financial incentives like available grants and tax credits, and network with other employers.
Department of Workforce Solutions Secretary Sarita Nair opened the event with a presentation to employers, talking about modern workforce expectations, statewide employment data and common labor rule misconceptions.
“The most important thing we do is talk to businesses and understand what they need,” Nair told the Journal after her presentation.
There will be more open houses in Hobbs, Artesia and Roswell in January, she said.
Nair also encouraged employers to fill out an online survey from the Workforce Connection of Central New Mexico about workforce needs. Send questions to sdrodriguez@mrcog-nm.gov.
